High pressure is expected to strengthen over the coming week, bringing back extreme heat for many around the desert southwest. Temperatures are in record territory to start the weekend in Phoenix, but will get back there again in just a matter of days. In between, temperatures won't be THAT far away anyway.
High pressure this time of year means one thing: heat. Temperatures will sky-rocket as the high situates itself overhead, especially into the middle of the week. Extreme Heat Warnings are in place to cover Saturday (above) but those will get replaced with more later this week.
It's not bad enough to be dodging records for much of this week. The hot weather might be here to stay, with a persistent ridging setup sticking around. The Temperature Outlook from the Climate Prediction Center is circling the southern Four Corners for some above-average temps.
