<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>An upper-level low system pressure was responsible for flooding rains and severe thunderstorms in the southwest continues to push eastward into the Plains. A trailing system will keep the Southern Plains and Rockies under the threat for severe storms and flooding through Sunday.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1930818174481477861" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1930818174481477861"></div><p>Thursday's system produced numerous severe storms, including this intense tornado to the west of Lubbock! Texas also saw hail over grapefruit size and a wind gust over 100 mph on Thursday.</p><h1>Outlooks</h1><h2>Friday</h2><p>A double enhanced risk has been issued for Friday around the Front Range and Southern Plains. These higher risks are for hail damage, including significant hail. <br><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-06 071132-1749215547424.png"></p><p>Several tornadoes are possible as well, with a better chance from the I-25 corridor in Colorado into west Texas.</p><h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-06 071139-1749215555281.png"><br>Saturday</h2><p>The higher threat on Saturday shifts to the east as the low pressure system tracks toward the Mississippi. Wind and hail will remain the primary threats but a tornado or two will be possible as well. </p><h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-06 071145-1749215561960.png"><br>Sunday</h2><p>As upper-level energy increases on Sunday, a higher risk does as well. A level 3 risk (enhanced) has already been issued from the Red River Valley back into the Texas Panhandle. Southwest Flooding Turns to Plains Severe

<p>As we look ahead, the Climate Prediction Center is highlighting a region (below) with low confidence in the formation of a tropical system in the western Caribbean or southwestern Gulf, also known as the Bay of Campeche. This doesn't indicate a system is expected, so be sure to stay up to date with the 7-Day forecast from the National Hurricane Center.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-05 173011-1749166218384.png"><br>Better chances for formation around mid-June are expected in the Eastern Pacific, which <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/an-area-to-watch-in-the-pacific-already"><u>already has one name crossed off the list</u></a>.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104826-1748537463299.png">A system in the Gulf or western Atlantic is not unusual in June, which typically has warmer water early in the season compared to the <em>main development region</em> (MDR) in the Atlantic (between the Caribbean and west Africa).</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104849-1748537876634.png">The early season will more often see more tropical storms than hurricanes, but hurricanes can form and impact the United States, so it's <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/hurricane-prep-week-2025"><u>always best to be prepared</u></a>. Andrea is the first name on the list in the Atlantic in 2025.</p><h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104834-1748537884478.png">Eastern Pacific Ocean</h2><p>We are monitoring a high chance for tropical development in the Eastern Pacific Ocean for TWO different systems. Conditions look favorable for development this weekend into next week. If you have travel plans around Acapulco or the SW coast of Mexico, flooding, rough surf, and wind impacts are possible. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-06 072126-1749216125331.png"></p><p>Models have been hinting at the quick development of both systems. Tropics: Looking Ahead & Eastern Pacific Lows

<p><strong>CANADA - </strong>Massive wildfires continue to burn in the Canadian Prairies, leading to evacuations and millions of acres of land, property, and forest burned. These fires are primarily burning in the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, as well as in Alberta, and a <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://cwfis.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/report">state of emergency</a> has been declared. According to the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://ciffc.net/"><strong><em>Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre</em></strong></a>, CIFFC, 202 fires are active in Canada.</p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-04 205217-1749091955146.png">Smoke Overhead</h1><p>The smoke from these fires has blanketed the United States, prompting air quality alerts across the Upper Midwest and Northeast. The forecast below shows where smoke will be visible overhead and doesn't necessarily indicate where air quality will be impacted.<br><br>Smoke should become less noticeable by Friday morning for many areas, however, a trough moving through Canada will help to re-establish northerly flow by Sunday, allowing thick smoke to return to the Midwest and Northeast to start the next work week.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/New Baron Video 3-1749165357091.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Near Surface Smoke / Air Quality Impacts</h1><p>This model displays where smoke will be most dense near the ground, highlighting areas where air quality impacts are more likely. Air Quality alerts remain in place through Thursday morning as smoke will remain impactful. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p><strong>FLORIDA </strong>- Over the past couple of days, heavy rain has saturated the parched soils of South Florida. Key Largo recorded an impressive 8.32 inches of rainfall over just 48 hours.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-05 054054-1749123665140.jpg"></p><p>The system responsible, along with an upper-level low (top of page), is shifting from Florida into Georgia and the Carolinas on Thursday. This will draw tropical moisture northward, increasing the risk for flash flooding. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a <strong>SLIGHT</strong> (Level 2 of 4) for flash flooding on Thursday across portions of eastern North Carolina, with localized rainfall totals potentially exceeding 5 inches.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-05 053936-1749123601218.jpg"></p><h2>Rain Timing</h2><p>Thunderstorm activity is winding down overnight. However, on Thursday, more scattered storms are likely near the upper low across Georgia and the Carolinas, and some coastal heavy rain is likely. Florida System Heads for Southeast Coast

<p><strong>EARLIER</strong> - An observed tornado was spotted in the St. Louis area on Wednesday afternoon. According to the National Weather Service of St. Louis, this looked to be much weaker than the tornado that happened on <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&amp;issuedby=LSX&amp;product=PNS&amp;format=CI&amp;version=4&amp;glossary=0">May 16, 2025</a>, where Mayor Spencer estimated $1 billion in damage occurred.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1930357743967175114" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1930357743967175114"></div><h1>Outlook</h1><p>The Storm Prediction Center has issued an extensive <strong>MARGINAL</strong> (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe storms spanning from Texas through Michigan through tonight along a long cold front.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-04 144703-1749070038364.png">Severe weather is likely anywhere along and ahead of this frontal boundary. It's where temperatures are warm (causing buoyancy) and moisture and instability is high.</p><h2>Timing</h2><p>Here's a look at the influence this front will have from the Ozarks to the Great Lakes. Now, during afternoon heating, the severe threat is the highest, but storms will continue along the boundary through tonight.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/06-04 rnc side-1749070241617.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Across Texas, storms are likely to move through as well.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/06-04 rsc-1749070297895.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>As this cold front moves through, some areas, especially Oklahoma and Missouri, can anticipate a LOT of rainfall. We have already seen numerous areas of flooding, and that threat will continue as this system moves east. Midwest to Texas - Severe Weather Threat

<p>Even through summer is approaching, the northern lights may still dazzle millions into Monday morning. A powerful solar flare erupted from sun late Friday night, with an Earth directed coronal mass ejection (CME) expected to arrive sometime Sunday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/ezgif-51637e8d7b470f-1748712327325.gif"></p><p>Astronomers are in a wait and see mode for how strong the CME may be, but many are hopeful it will be strong enough to bring aurora borealis down to the mid-latitudes, including a large portion of the north United States late Sunday into Monday. The Space Weather Prediction Center is expected G3 conditions, with the potential for G4 conditions by the 2nd, or early Monday morning. Their latest forecast shows the potential to view the aurora down to I-80 in Iowa and Nebraska.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-31 112223-1748712236698.png"></p><p>G4 conditions would mean that Aurora viewing would be possible even further south, especially for long-exposure photography. It is worth noting the timing and strength of a CME is difficult to forecast, but satellites away from the Earth will be able to confirm if and when a CME impact is expected with about 30 minutes of lead time for Earthlings. This means if you plan to try to view the aurora, stay up to date with the Space Weather Prediction Center's latest conditions.</p><h2>Cloud Forecast</h2><p>Even if the aurora may be visible overhead, it doesn't mean clouds won't ruin your fun. For the northern and mid-latitudes, there will be some cloud cover over the northern Rockies, Great Lakes, and northern New England.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/2025-05-31 11-22-33-1748712624382.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>

Aurora Borealis Dazzled Over the Weekend

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<p>.After a busy afternoon of strong to severe storms, the SPC has maintained a slight risk for portions of Texas tonight and into the overnight hours. Cities like Dallas and Houston have the potential to see a few strong to severe storms overnight. Damaging winds and hail will be the primary concern. <p>Two upper level lows have brought a shot of cold air across the Northeast. Temperatures Wednesday AM were chilling for Illinois and Indiana.  These chilly temperatures are going to continue to spread east.  The mid-Atlantic will wake up to temperatures around 32° and or frost developing outside. This can be harmful to plants that have been planted especially since it has been a few weeks with warmer overnight temperatures. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Web 19-1744803212343.png"></p><p>There are a few <strong>winter weather advisories</strong> that continue into Wednesday for a quick inch or two of snow and wind gusts upwards of 35 mph.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Winter Temps-1744803224940.png"></p><p>The Northeast will spend the rest of the week digging out of this cool pocket and warming back up to seasonable levels and beyond.
