Days started getting longer on December, 22nd. But we still haven't seen our latest sun rise! Latest Sunrise of the Year The latest sunrise of the year isn't on the winter solstice. It actually doesn't happen until the following year! Though it varies from location to location, generally the latest sunrise of the year is on either January 4th or 5th. After the 5th, we start gaining daylight both in the morning and in the evening! https://twitter.com/BianchiWeather/status/946910586549420032 Earliest Sunset of the Year If the shortest day of the year is the 21st of December. But if the latest sunrise of the year doesn't happen until almost 2 weeks later, what is going on with the sunset? It actually happens on the 7th of December. Which means all of those holiday lights actually help us get through the darkest evenings of the year! Why do I Care? Why do we care about half the stuff we worry about every day? I'm just telling you this so you can look forward to the abundant sunshine you will see soon! Before you go telling everyone, make sure you know your audience. This fun fact got me called a nerd at a New Year's party then again in the kitchen at work today... https://media.weathernationtv.com/news/will-days-get-longer/ For WeatherNation — Meteorologist Jeremy LaGoo
