Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Multiple low-pressure systems moving across the country will bring heavy rain to the Gulf Coast through the end of the week, but on the northern periphery of these lows, cold air will linger, turning rain into snow and ice! The snow started falling Thursday morning in Texas and Oklahoma before moving east Thursday afternoon. <div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1996640648766628256" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1996640648766628256"></div> Winter weather advisories are in effect through Friday afternoon from North Carolina through eastern Maryland for light/moderate snow and some light icing. Expect roads to be slick with temperatures in the 20s.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/pic6-1764963628163.png">Virginia into North Carolina and some areas around the Chesapeake Bay will see a round of mostly snow on Friday morning, with moderate ice accretions possible along the Blue Ridge Escarpment in Western North Carolina. Some snow may linger along the Mid-Atlantic coast into New Jersey and Delaware into the afternoon and early evening.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/FORECAST-1764971120854.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snow accumulations look mostly minor, generally 1-3 inches, but higher elevations in the Blue Ridge Mountains could see some 3-6 inch totals. As <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/another-blast-of-cold-air-on-the-way">bitterly cold air moves into the Northern Plains</a>, a frigid temperature gradient will set up across the Midwest, setting up the stage for additional snow across the Plains and Midwest. A low diving out of the Rockies will tap into limited moisture to create round of moderate snowfall from the Dakotas through Michigan this weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-04 172329-1764894262223.png">A surface low will begin to deepen along this gradient by the weekend, and continue to strengthen as it pushes across the Plains and into the Midwest through the day Saturday. By Sunday morning, residents of Chicago could be waking up to falling snow. Models are also showing the possible snow across much of Wisconsin, Michigan, northern Illinois, and northern Indiana.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/mwlow-1764893945785.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>By later in the day on Sunday, most of the snow will be heading towards to Northeast, leaving cold air and lake-effect snow in its wake.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-05 062936-1764941613877.png">While this system moves across cities that were impacted by heavy snow last weekend, this upcoming system won't be quite as powerful. However, we can expect a wide swath of snow from eastern Montana through Ohio of 1-3". Higher totals may be noted from Sioux Falls, across Iowa, and into the Quad Cities.

Quick Moving System To Bring More Snow to the Midwest

The Northern Tier of the country is no stranger to cold, and with that being said, another shot of arctic air is here for the next few days. High and low temperatures will be well below average! The mercury dropped to more than 20 degrees below zero Thursday morning for a few areas in the Upper-Midwest, with many states registering temperatures below 0. We're waiting on official numbers to see how many records were broken!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764893083337.png">The coldest air pivots east for Friday morning, with many additional record lows possible from New York through the Great Lakes.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764893338569.png">High temperatures will also be below average. Minneapolis has an average high of 33° for this time of year, and will only see 17° for a high on Thursday. Chicago is expected to reach a high of 17° on Thursday, which is below its average high of 41° for this time of year.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/web8-1764851063167.png">The cold air will move eastward and bring temperatures significantly lower in portions of the Northeast and Ohio Valley. Burlington, VT, will wake up to 4° on Friday morning.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/web9-1764851121074.png">Another round of arctic air is expected to spill southward into the Midwest and Northeast over the weekend. Many will wake up to wind chills well below zero from Saturday through Monday morning.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/2025-12-04 09-45-03-1764866731427.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>When it gets this dangerously cold, even if it only lasts a day or two, bring the pets inside and remember to check on neighbors who might be susceptible to this. Arctic Blast to Bring Dangerous Conditions to Millions

DENVER, CO - Denver has finally seen its first significant snow this season, with 6.5 inches reported downtown. The highest totals are coming down in the higher elevations, with 11 inches reported in Genesee.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-04 095720-1764867453909.png">The "Mile High" city recorded its first snowfall of the season two days after Thanksgiving as a strong trough moved through the northern Rockies. To count as measurable snow, it needs to accumulate to at least one-tenth of an inch, which the Denver airport doubled with that quick round of snowfall Saturday morning. The first snow date of November 29th makes it Denver's 2nd latest start to the snow season on record, with 2021 being the only year with a later first snow.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-29 082401-1764430054403.png">The snowfall also ended a long streak of snowless days, tied for the third-longest since record-keeping began.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-29 082406-1764430062849.png"><h1>Forecast Snow</h1>Another round of snowfall is in store for the Rocky Mountains, as a frontal system dives in. Precipitation will start tonight in parts of Utah and spread south throughout the overnight and Friday. Another round of snow is likely for the weekend with higher moisture content coming from the Northwest.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764892286287.png"><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1764892355023.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>With today's round and our late-week round, snowfall totals may reach upwards of a foot plus in the higher elevations.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/1-1764892417459.png">This snowfall is more than welcome for some of the ski resorts in the Rockies. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. NORTHWEST - We're in for a stormy and snowy pattern from the Pacific Coast to the Rocky Mountains. Rain pushed onshore Thursday morning and has been moving into the Interior this afternoon. This will fall as snow over the mountains. Overnight, the frontal boundary moves onshore, bringing another push of rain and snow.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1764904686196.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>With a couple of rounds of rain and snow, totals could be quite high across the west. Our forecast models have totals along the coast and in the foothills of the Cascades reaching upwards of 7 inches.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/web1-1764857519285.png">As this moisture moves up the mountains, snowfall totals will climb. The heaviest looks to happen in the Cascades of Washington and the Bitterroots of Idaho and Montana. Northwest Storms Bring Snowy, Rainy Weather

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

MONTANA - A clipper system has been moving through the Rockies and High Plains and brought upwards of 4-7" of snowfall across portions of Montana. More snow is in store across the Northern Plains to Midwest to Northeast as the clippers move through.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/New Baron Video 3-1764813457932.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>These totals will pile up across the northern plains, with the highest totals staying out west across the Northern Rockies.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-03 162020-1764804026521.png">Gusty winds will also play a role in the forecast. We can expect rounds of 25-30mph wind gusts. In some cases, maybe even higher than that! Watch out for those wind chill temperatures as they will drop as the winds come through with each clipper system.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/12-03 rnc bams3k wind-1764786148016.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Clipper systems are notorious for bringing quick-accumulating snowfall. But, even if snow totals are not significant, it doesn't mean dangerous road conditions won't be present. The Iowa Department of Transportation reports over 70% of weather-related crashes happen when there is 2" or LESS of snowfall. Northern U.S. Bracing for Multiple Clipper Systems this Week

We're hoping many Thanksgiving travelers have made it home, because this next system has brought rain, ice, and snowfall from the Mid-South to the Northeast. The combination of an upper-level low drawing in cold air and a surface low pulling in warm Gulf moisture will set some of us up for ice, others for rain, and many for heavy snowfall. So gear up for what you can expect in your neighborhood. Kansas and Nebraska already saw 2-4" of snowfall on Monday morning.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1995549367382753424" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1995549367382753424"></div><h2>Overall Set-Up</h2>Several components come into play when we talk about different types of wintry precipitation, and the temperature profile of the atmosphere is one of the most important. In this forecast, a strong upper-level low will draw in cold air aloft. At the surface, a low will pull in warm Gulf moisture. What happens between these layers determines whether precipitation falls as rain, freezing rain, sleet, a rain/snow mix, or snow.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-01 041042-1764587449453.png">Winter alerts are starting to trim back as the low pressure system pushes farther north and east, but many remain in effect through tonight.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 135101-1764708672189.png"><h2>Forecast Timing</h2>Based on current timing, snow will reach the Northeast through Tuesday night before the system exits offshore early Wednesday morning.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/2025-12-02 11-14-48-1764692115278.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snowfall totals will vary depending on how cold the temperatures get throughout the event. The heaviest totals are expected to climb over 6 inches in the Northeast. Our forecast models are topping out closer to a foot for northern New England.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot 2025-12-02 135106-1764708709573.png">Ice accumulations generally range from a light glaze up to 0.1". When forecasts show totals approaching 0.25" or more, power outages become possible, and travel can become nearly impossible.
