KENTUCKY - Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said at least 19 Kentuckians are dead in a post on the social media platform X, after an onslaught of tornadoes and severe storms swept through the Bluegrass State over the weekend.
Seventeen of the deaths occurred in Laurel County, where the town of London, KY, took a direct hit from a damaging tornado.
The latest from the National Weather Service in Paducah has confirmed that the London, Kentucky, tornado has been rated EF-4. A total of 10 tornadoes were confirmed in the Paducah office's region.
WeatherNation had crews on the ground just moments after the tornado swept through the community of London, where tales of survival and destruction continue to come to light.
Local National Weather Service officials are working to detail the strength of this storm, where at least EF-3 damage has already been found. The NWS will have the final say on the rating once surveys are completed.
In the wake of the disaster, multiple relief organizations are working in the area to help restore a sense of normalcy to the region. Seven counties and 1 city have declared disaster declarations after the storms.
