ARKLATEX - The Storm Prediction Center has maintained a SLIGHT risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe storms overnight across portions of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Scattered severe thunderstorms capable of producing very large hail and severe wind gusts are our primary hazards.
The risk of severe storms through tonight is due to a shortwave from California that was responsible for rainfall in southern California.
Storms have moved quickly ahead of a cold front and are expected to head east as a complex of storms overnight and into Thursday.
This shortwave will progress east into Alabama by Thursday before wrapping up. Thursday's SPC outlook is a MARGINAL risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe storms.
This severe weather threat is a precursor to our wave, which will bring additional severe weather chances by the end of the week and into the weekend in similar areas. For more on the late-week severe threat be sure to read this related article: Monster Storm System Looms End of Week
