<p><strong>FLORIDA - Previously CAT 3, Hurricane Milton </strong>made landfall in Siesta Key Florida. Winds were sustained at 120 mph and pressure was as low as 954 MB. This occurred at 8:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 9th. As of Thursday morning, Milton is now a Post-Tropical Cyclone with max sustained winds of 75 mph.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-09 183259-1728520901833.jpg"></p><p>On Monday, the central pressure within Milton tumbled to a historically low level. The central pressure dropped to 897 millibars, which placed Milton as the 5th lowest pressure from an Atlantic named storm. Milton weakened somewhat as it approached the Florida Coastline, however the impacts remained strong.</p><h1>Wind Reports</h1><h1>According to the National Weather Service, a wind gust of 105 mph was clocked in Egmont Channel.<strong><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/1-1728585889838.png"></strong>Rain &amp; Flooding Forecast</h1><p>Rainfall amounts have topped 18" in some locations. The good news is that the heaviest rain has now moved into the Atlantic Ocean! A few off-and-on light to moderate showers will still be possible this evening across the Florida Atlantic Coast. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/1-1728586184015.png"></p>

Milton Is Now a Post-Tropical Cyclone

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p><strong>PHOENIX, AZ </strong>- Phoenix has currently undergone more than 2 full weeks of record-breaking temperatures. Wednesday, Phoenix's high temperature rose to 106° which smashed the previous record of 103°. It makes 16 consecutive days Phoenix has had a new daily high-temperature record!</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1843760340808675575" src="https://twitter.com/NWSPhoenix/status/1843760340808675575"></div><p></p><p>Even as heat alerts end, it will still run well above average across the southwestern U.S.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-10 143426-1728592470543.png"></p><p>Back in Phoenix, the chances for record-breaking numbers will continue. However, the end of the records may be in sight, as temperatures look to temper somewhat. Never Ending Record-Heat for Phoenix

<p>While tropical activity in the Atlantic normally tends to trend down through October, impactful systems can and do occur during the final two months of hurricane season. However, in the Atlantic, we are currently monitoring two tropical disturbances, Tropical Storm Leslie, and Hurricane Milton.</p><h1>Atlantic Ocean</h1><p>For more information on Milton in the Gulf, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/tropical-trouble-returns-to-the-caribbean">click here</a>.</p><h2>Disturbance #1: Eastern Atlantic</h2><p>A tropical wave is expected to move off Africa's coast in the next day or two. Environmental conditions are only marginally conducive for tropical development towards the Cabo Verde Islands.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-09 181622-1728519391519.jpg"></p><h2>Hurricane Leslie</h2><p>Leslie continues moving northwest over the Central Atlantic with no coastal alerts or hazards to land expected.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/1-1728586404207.png"></p><p>Leslie has started to move toward the northwest as a hurricane. This system will move out into open waters, and will not impact land.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/1-1728586437795.png"></p><h1>Looking Ahead</h1><p>The Climate Prediction Center has released their 2-week and 3-week tropical outlooks for the Atlantic and Pacific, and currently there is low confidence on any tropical formation. Tropics: Leslie, Atlantic Waves, and Looking Ahead

<p><strong>BOISE, ID—The Valley Fire, a new fire east of Boise, Idaho, started on Friday, October 4th.</strong> It is located along Highway 21 near Highland Valley Summit (SE of Boise). The NWS encourages citizens to avoid the area while crews work on containment.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-10 141934-1728591591115.png"> Additional wildfires continue to burn in Wyoming, including the Elk Fire and the Pack Fire. The Pack Fire has likely become a complex fire now that it has joined acreage with a fire that was previously burning to the north. Together, these fires have burned over 140k acres.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-10 142016-1728591622874.png"></p><p><strong>Air Quality Alerts </strong>remain in effect in close proximity to burning fires, due to lofted wildfire smoke. This smoke is expected to get caught in the jet stream and occasionally push into places like Denver and Rapid City.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/Screenshot 2024-10-10 142231-1728591755915.png">Here's a look at the latest smoke forecast for the western U.S. and throughout the country.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/smokeforall-1728592012650.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Meanwhile, fires continue to burn across Southern California. The Line Fire, which has had trouble containing, continues to burn. Summer of 1993, New England Dragway. That's when and where Steve knew he wanted to become a meteorologist. More than 20 years later he is extremely fortunate and blessed to be able to live his childhood dream. As a lover of math and science, Steve had a consistent interest in weather in elementary, middle, and high school before discovering you can major in meteorology. He attended Lyndon State College in Vermont where he received a bachelor's in meteorology-broadcasting and associate's in television news. He has worked as a meteorologist and reporter in Winchester, VA, Burlington, VT, and most recently in West Palm Beach, FL. He's recognized by the American Meteorological Society with the Certification of Broadcast Meteorologists.

<p>While Hurricane Milton was approaching Tampa Bay and Sarasota, tornadoes were tearing across the eastern part of Florida. A distance of 200 miles away from the storm's center, many Floridians found themselves seeking shelter in the path of numerous tornado warnings.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1844129430874267922" src="https://twitter.com/WeatherNation/status/1844129430874267922"></div><p>This is an important example and reminder that impacts can stretch far beyond the center of a hurricane. Unfortunately, it was the case again on Wednesday when dozens of tornado warnings were issued by the National Weather Service, many of which were more than 100 miles from the center of the hurricane.</p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1844021346503999978" src="https://twitter.com/WeatherNation/status/1844021346503999978"></div><p>According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Miami, Florida there have been at least 55 tornado warnings issued by NWS Miami. Hurricane Milton Produces Numerous Large Tornadoes Across Florida

<p>Lingering isolated severe storms are possible across the Ohio Valley and Northeast. The severe risk will be isolated overall, but a few strong storms can't be ruled out for the Monday morning commute.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/PIC 1-1728268099571.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/PIC 2-1728268107989.jpg">As the cold front passes the Great Lakes it may pick up on some moisture across the region and produce rainfall and storms starting in the afternoon through nightfall.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/FORECAST-1728268318059.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>As this cold front continues moving east, temperatures are expected to drop closer to, and in some cities slightly below, seasonable for many of us for the upcoming weekend. <p>From being the strongest hurricane to make landfall on Florida's Big Bend Region, to causing unprecedented flooding in the Appalachians, Hurricane Helene will go down in History.</p><p>Helene made landfall last Thursday as a Category 4 Hurricane with sustained winds of 140 mph, just 10 miles WSW of Perry, FL. Record storm surge for Cedar Key, FL of over 10ft. The storm was still a category 2 hurricane as it moved into Georgia and continued to lift north on an 800-mile path. The destructive forecast for Helene verified as this tropical system dumped over 30" of rain over the Appalachians. The aftermath was described by the local national weather service office as "the worst event in our office's history."</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/10/LL_100124_TRT 2.56_WILL TALKS THROUGH DAMAGE IN ERWIN TN_WILL NUNLEY_BH_100124-1727874366194.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>The water is receding uncovering washed-out roadways, debris from homes washed off their foundation and some people are still left stranded or unaccounted for. There is an imminent need for supplies and resources. Heavy mountain snows have returned to the West this week.  A series of low pressure centers have been spreading precipitation throughout the Southwest. More than a foot of snow has accumulated in the higher elevations. Snowfall will linger in the Colorado Rockies today.

Up to 6" of additional accumulation is possible in the high country of Colorado. Snowfall has tapered across the rest of the West.

Tropical moisture has been streaming into the Southwest from the Pacific, bringing the heavy areas of rain and snow. Lingering Jet Stream energy will keep the snow around into this afternoon, with snow ending by tonight (Friday).
