<h2>Eastern Pacific Ocean</h2><p>The 2025 Eastern Pacific hurricane season is off to a record-breaking start, with four named storms: Alvin, Barbara, Cosme, and now Dalila. This level of early activity is well ahead of the seasonal average, which typically sees the first named storm by June 10, the second by June 24, and the third by July 6. Dalila forming on the 13th marked the fastest four storms to be named in the basin since record keeping began, beating 1974, which saw Dolores form by the 14th of June.</p><p>Dalila weakens to post-tropical.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer tropics-1750042475577.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer ts dal track-1750042559064.jpg"></p><p>As the system pulls farther out to sea, the impacts will lessen - heavy rain will likely be the last one to depart eastward Sunday.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer pac rain forecast-1750033798929.jpg"></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-13 121944-1749838800070.png"></p><h2>Looking Ahead</h2><p>As we look ahead, the Climate Prediction Center is highlighting a region (below) with low confidence in the formation of a tropical system in the western Caribbean or southwestern Gulf, also known as the Bay of Campeche. This does not indicate a system is expected, so be sure to stay up to date with the 7-Day forecast from the National Hurricane Center.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-11 044338-1749638755094.png">A system in the Gulf or western Atlantic is not unusual in June, which typically has warmer water early in the season compared to the <em>main development region</em> (MDR) in the Atlantic (between the Caribbean and west Africa).</p><p>The Atlantic hurricane season, which began on June 1, has remained quiet with no named storms forming so far. This lack of activity is being attributed to three key atmospheric factors: persistent wind shear, marginally warm water temperatures, and the presence of Saharan dust. <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">&nbsp;</span></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104826-1748537463299.png">The Saharan dust, which often travels westward from Africa, can suppress tropical development by introducing dry, stable air into the atmosphere. In addition, wind shear is disrupting the organization of tropical waves and disturbances, preventing them from developing into more significant systems. While sea surface temperatures are warm enough to support storm formation, they are not as favorable as in recent years, further limiting activity.&nbsp;</p><p>Unlike the Atlantic, the Eastern Pacific is not affected by Saharan dust, as the dust tends to move northward toward the U.S. before it can interfere with conditions in that region. As a result, the Eastern Pacific remains more conducive to early-season development. In fact, forecasters are currently monitoring the region for another potential tropical cyclone, which has a high chance of forming within the next seven days.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/New Baron Video 3-1749956522318.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><p>Although the Atlantic is off to a slow start, this is not unusual for early June. Historically, tropical activity in the Atlantic does not typically ramp up until later in the summer, particularly in August and September, with the peak occurring around the 15th of September.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Day1SVR-1749823458384.png"></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/05/Screenshot 2025-05-29 104849-1748537876634.png">For now, the quiet beginning to the season is considered perfectly normal.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">&nbsp;</span>The early season will more often see more tropical storms than hurricanes, but hurricanes can form and impact the United States, so it's <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/hurricane-prep-week-2025"><u>always best to be prepared</u></a>. Southern Heavy Rain & Severe Threat

After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. <h2><strong>SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOKS</strong></h2><h1>Into Monday</h1><p>Severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds are possible overnight into Monday morning.  An Enhance Severe Weather Risk (orange) remains in place.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer mt svr threat-1750040014296.jpg"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer mt wind-1750040059693.jpg"></p><h3><strong>FORECAST TIMING</strong></h3><p>Storms will be most active in the afternoons, as moisture stuck along the east side of the Continental Divide turns into strong updrafts as daytime heating builds. While a few storms will persist into the overnight hours, most areas will see quiet conditions overnight.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer mt futurecast-1750034180773.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Thunderstorms will be heavy enough to trigger isolated flash flooding, especially on Friday and Sunday. Northwest: From Heatwave to Thunderstorms

<p>An active pattern to impact the mid-Atlantic will bring a threat for flooding into the work week. A combination of tropical moisture and an approaching cold front will bring widespread showers, thunderstorms and a elevated risk for severe and flash flooding. A moderate excessive rainfall outlook is in effect which is a level 3 out of 4 flood threat. A marginal risk means numerous flash flooding events are expected and some could be significant. Rivers may also be impacted by the amount of moisture.</p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer east coast exc rain-1750033445984.jpg">Forecast Rainfall:</h1><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer east next 3 days rain-1750033542496.jpg">The atmosphere is saturated with dewpoints in the 70s. Rainfall rates of 1-2" per hour possible with strong storms, new rain totals up to 3", falling on top of saturated soil. <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">Flood Watches stretch from Virginia through Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio.</span></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer east setup-1750033619759.jpg"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed much of this region under a </span>Marginal Risk<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">&nbsp;(Level 2 of 5) for severe storms. Damaging winds, hail and a spin up tornado are all primary concerns today. Active Pattern sparks Mid-Atlantic Flood & Severe Threat

<p>We've had a few weeks of severe storms in Texas and Oklahoma and a few days of it in Montana and Wyoming. The Midwest has been largely pretty quiet, aside from a few instances - especially Iowa. Take a look that the number of severe warnings (thunderstorm or tornado) issued since May 1st this year.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-15 104052-1750005660137.png">This week might be a little different, as a slow-moving boundary is going to linger around the area.</p><h1>SET-UP</h1><p>So what's changed? Temperatures will start to climb, which will give any storm that develops plenty to work with. We also have a trough in the northwest kicking out disturbances overhead, providing a spark to light the fuse.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-15 104303-1750005944487.png"></p><h1>WHAT TO EXPECT</h1><p>Overnight thunderstorms that develop tonight could survive into Monday morning. Those could very well be strong to even severe, but the Monday afternoon batch is where the concerns are. Storms are expected to fire in the afternoon on Monday, anywhere between 3-5 PM.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-15 114900-1750009755671.png">Once these storms develop in the afternoon, all modes of severe weather will come to the table. The biggest concern, right now, looks to be massive hail (bigger than eggs) and a few tornadoes.</p><h1>Timing:</h1><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/tomer midwest futurecast-1750033305648.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>ANOTHER TRAFFIC JAM</h1><p>I mean, can we get something that moves for once?? It feels like every system we've had recently has its grip on us for a few days, not ones that are in and out of here. That's what happens this time of year. As the jet stream retreats north, there isn't nearly as much wind in the sails of these systems.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-15 105233-1750006528268.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot 2025-06-15 105243-1750006535027.png">That means the severe chances are here to stay for much of this week - but kinda like Monday's storms, these all depend on the atmosphere in place.</p>

Severe Chances Move Into the Midwest This Week

<p>Okay. Explanation needed. Dr. Jim is the only father at WeatherNation (of humans). That's why I jar you, the reader, with his headshot. Capeesh? Alright, let's get into that forecast for Dad! Here's what we're looking at for Father's Day.</p><h1>SWEATY DADS</h1><p>Most of the country will be hot and muggy in the 80s and 90s, and the southwest will take the cake for warmest. There is one exception, that is the northeast, which is stuck in the cooler 60s.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Web 6-1749981079865.png"></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/Day1SVR-1749925772739.png">As a ridge of high pressure builds in the desert southwest, temperatures have started soaring. By Saturday and Sunday, areas like Phoenix will top out beyond 110°, prompting heat alerts. While this likely won't threaten any record highs for the area, it is still the hottest temperatures we've seen this year. Make sure Dad's drinking water early and often!</p><h1>TOUGH TIME LIGHTING THE GRILL</h1><p>We're monitoring a few areas of low pressure that could rain on your Father's Day parade. The High Plains to Upper Midwest could see some strong to severe thunderstorms as back-to-back surface lows slide through. Lots of Gulf moisture will be moving through the heart of the country, fueling shower and thunderstorm chances from the Front Range of the Rockies to the Mississippi valley. We're also watching a potent system moving into the Mid-Atlantic that could bring heavy rain and flooding into early next week.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/06/New Baron Video 3-1749956013851.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><p>Of course, the Northeast is used to this, so they assumed this was going to happen, I'm sure! HAPPY FATHER'S DAY: Here is the Forecast

<p><strong>JUNE 11, 2025</strong></p><p>The folks at Colorado State planned on updating the outlook today and they did - no changes. They're still expecting a ENSO neutral regime to persist through the Hurricane Season. That, with above average sea surface temperatures (but not as hot as last year) should still point to a busy season. Their next update to the outlook is scheduled for July 9, with another adjustment August 6. </p><p></p><p><strong>APRIL 3, 2025</strong></p><p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">Today, meteorologists and research scientists at </span><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://tropical.colostate.edu/forecasting.html"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">Colorado State University (CSU)</span></a><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)"> have released their outlook for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Dr. Phil Klotzbach and the Tropical Meteorology Project at CSU are among the first to issue an outlook for the season. Early predictions expect this year's hurricane season to be busier than average. This year they anticipate 17 named storms, 9 of which will become hurricanes and 4 of those are expected to become major hurricanes (CAT 3 or greater).</span></p><div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NpwxsMmHDIU" start="0"></iframe></div><p>Forecast factors that contributed to their above average outlook focus on the El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and sea surface temperatures. In the coming months, a transition to ENSO neutral is expected. That usually does not give a strong single for an above or below average season. However, by the end of the summer into early fall (climatological peak of hurricane season), a potential transition to La Nina is forecast. There is not much certainty on the likelihood or intensity of that La Nina transition, though. Nonetheless, an absence of El Nino which traditionally suppresses hurricane activity is enough to warrant an above average forecast.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-03 081623-1743689797271.png"></p><p>Sea surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic remain above average this year.
