Throw another log on the fire.  Crank up the thermostat.  Grab a hot beverage and a few extra blankets.  The arctic air will keep the South chilly once again overnight!  Temperatures will plummet thanks to a clearing sky and fresh snowpack. Temperatures will fall below freezing, making black ice an issue for the morning rush hour.  A handful of southern cities may witness record cold low temperatures. If the cold wasn't enough, wind chills will add another layer of concern!  Wind chill values will be in the single digits and may dip below zero from time to time. Temperatures will remain below normal for Thursday afternoon, but sunshine will begin to melt the snow. By the weekend, mild weather will make the snow a distant memory.  High temperatures will rise into the 50s and 60s.  The month of January may end with above average temperatures for much of the eastern United States. The western United States, however, will become a bit cooler and experience more wet weather.  Keep it tuned to WeatherNation for the latest forecast. -Meteorologist Joe Astolfi
