Temperatures will fall below freezing, making black ice an issue for the morning rush hour. A handful of southern cities may witness record cold low temperatures.

If the cold wasn't enough, wind chills will add another layer of concern! Wind chill values will be in the single digits and may dip below zero from time to time.

Temperatures will remain below normal for Thursday afternoon, but sunshine will begin to melt the snow.

By the weekend, mild weather will make the snow a distant memory. High temperatures will rise into the 50s and 60s. The month of January may end with above average temperatures for much of the eastern United States.
