A new wildfire in southwestern Oregon sparked up on July 15 and has already burned over 15,000 acres. This fire is called the Flat Fire. This fire has caused poor air quality and red flag warnings remain in place through Thursday due to the dry and hot nature of the west.
Some of this smoke has been sent down into California, causing poor air quality for Yosemite Valley.
Wildfire smoke originating from Canada continues to make its way into the United States, and it is bringing impacts along with it. As the upper level low-pressure system pulls in the smoke. Unfortunately, air quality is moderate for some spots in the Southeastern U.S., which means some people have the risk of being impacted by breathing the air in, this is why air quality alerts remain in effect. Smoke is densest around Georgia, Alabama and the Carolinas where high pressure has kept the smoke from mixing out of the atmosphere.
With the smoke moving through, air quality will be reduced for many cities. Particulates can settle into the lungs of even healthy people, causing problems for those with respiratory issues and also the general public. If you find yourself being impacted, limit outdoor activities, and keep doors and windows closed during the day at night.
Along with the potential impacts listed below, headaches are another thing to look out for. Take care of yourself in smoke-impacted areas and avoid any outdoor vigorous activity.
