Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. UPPER MIDWEST - Dangerous tornadoes have already been confirmed today across the state of Wisconsin with a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 8:00 PM tonight. The threat for severe storms will follow a frontal boundary across the Great Lakes and Midwest through tonight due to strong upper level winds and a very moist and unstable low-level air mass moving through.<h2>Today's Storm Forecast</h2>With high levels of instability and a passing frontal boundary providing that lift, we're under an ENHANCED (level 3 out of 5) risk for severe weather across the Great Lakes, Upper Midwest, and Ohio Valley.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 162305-1785190990992.png">All severe weather hazards are expected through tonight but there is a significant risk as storms turn into clusters to produce damaging winds greater than 75 mph.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 162316-1785191008714.png">Isolated tornadoes are also on the table for these same cities.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 144213-1785185031554.png">As storms have already taken hold across the shores of Lake Michigan, through tonight we'll continue to follow these clusters south-southeast-bound and watch for any new clusters that will take place during the peak of afternoon heating.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/07271-1785191065805.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>Tuesday's Storm Forecast</h2>More storms are expected ahead of the front into Tuesday. As it slides east, so will the chances of severe weather. A SLIGHT (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe weather will be in place of the Mid-Atlantic and portions of the Northeast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 122422-1785177024561.png">Like Monday, damaging winds are expected to be the main threat we'll watch for on Tuesday. However, still can't rule out that isolated tornado.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 122956-1785177019382.png">For Tuesday's storms, the same frontal boundary tracks east and will run into some Atlantic moisture to help build instability for severe weather chances. These storms will move over the Appalachians, Carolinas, and Mid-Atlantic as an upper level trough and cold front help support thunderstorm updrafts.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/0727-1785162498092.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>Flooding Risk</h2>In addition to severe weather threats, the risk for flooding will increase as storms slow down and move over saturated soils. Our in-house show heavy regions fo rainfall that may exceed flash flooding guidance.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 144731-1785185259010.png">Therefore, excessive rainfall outlooks have been issued out east for Tuesday and Wednesday as thunderstorms move through. Conditions have been really dry out west. We've been tracking major fires across Oregon. With multiple fires burning in the same general region, they form complexes. We have two large ones we're tracking now, with containment improvements underway.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 145228-1785185553738.png">One of the biggest issues we'll track with these fires will be the smoke. Unfortunately, upper-level winds will send this moderate to even dense smoke across the Pacific Northwest that will impact air quality.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 145224-1785185569624.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-03-29 061724-1784899203154.png">This smoke is expected to lower the air quality considerably across the area through the work week. Fire Weather Continues This Week

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

An area of high pressure continues to bring the heat across the United States! There will be a little relief for some, but a lot of areas will remain hot! Multiple records were broken on Sunday, including Denver, CO. Denver hit 103°, beating out the old record of 100°. More records will be possible this afternoon.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/jalsss-1785117589227.png">There are over 100 million people under heat alerts, about a third of the U.S. population. Extreme heat warnings, extreme heat watches, and heat advisories are all in place across the country over the next few days. Find ways to stay cool! <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/heat alertssss-1785175458451.png"><h1>Southwest</h1>Extreme Heat Warnings and Advisories have been issued for parts of the Desert Southwest into Monday. As we look ahead into Tuesday, temperatures are above average for cities like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, but near average for spots like San Diego and Bakersfield. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/tue - thu-1785175513631.png"><h1>Central U.S.</h1>As high pressure expands westward, the upper high also expands northward into the High Plains and Upper Midwest. Heat alerts have been issued for areas from the Northern Rockies out into the Great Lakes with some areas remaining in the alerts through Tuesday. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/101111-1785175562536.png">Lastly, for the Southern Plains, the high heat sticks around for the weekend and most of this week because of high pressure. Feel like temperatures will dig into well into the 100s for multiple cities. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/jfjddddd-1785175574257.png">For everyone across the country dealing with the intense heat, practice heat safety, take frequent breaks, and stay hydrated as best as you can in the days upcoming.

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

<h1>Atlantic Basin</h1>Bertha has dissipated after moving inland into Texas on Thursday evening, with a messy second landfall as an elongated low-pressure center. Bertha first made landfall within the Biloxi Wildlife Management Area in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, with winds of 45 mph on Wednesday, July 22. No further tropical development is expected over the next seven days.<h1>Pacific</h1>There are a few other areas we are monitoring in the Eastern Pacific. Hurricane Fausto continues to track west, along with Major Hurricane Genevieve that formed on Friday. Now a hurricane, Fausto is expected to track westward and remain hurricane strength through the weekend. Dry air and increasing shear mean the storm is expected to weaken some through the weekend as it approaches the Hawaiian Islands. It's too early to determine if the storm will track over the islands or head north, but some impacts can be expected. Large swells and strong currents will impact the islands next week, but wind and rain impacts from the system itself cannot be ruled out. We will continue to keep you updated!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 082331-1785162215340.png">The main threat heading towards the Hawaiian Islands will be increased surf. For now, Fausto looks to stay more to the north, limiting tropical storm impacts to the islands.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 082237-1785162165529.png"><h1>Genevieve</h1>Genevieve formed on Friday south of Acapulco, Mexico. With plenty of warm waters ahead, Genevieve rapidly intensified and is now a Category 5 hurricane. Luckily, the storm will stay away from land. However, choppy waters and rough surf can be expected if visiting any of the Mexican cities along the Pacific coast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 082107-1785162073865.png">This storm could bring some high surf conditions to Southern California beaches by Thursday and Friday. Waves heights 9-11 ft. are possible, especially for South to Southwest facing beaches.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-27 082140-1785162144640.png">

A stalled boundary over the Southeast will keep storms in the forecast into the weekend, leading to an increased risk for flash flooding.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2080088002332872753" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2080088002332872753"></div><h1>Flooding</h1>Flash flooding was an issue Friday across parts of North Georgia and Northern Alabama with the slow-moving showers and storms. Another batch of storms will keep the flooding threat on the table as we move into this weekend. Make sure you have a plan of action if high water becomes an issue in your neighborhood.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-25 053112-1784979080498.jpg">All the rain that has fallen in the last month will keep the flood risk ongoing for many spots in the Mid-Atlantic.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/Screenshot 2026-07-25 052948-1784978995612.jpg"><h1>Timing</h1>Showers and storms will continue Saturday across the Southeast. Flash flooding and even a few isolated strong storms will be possible this weekend. As the front drops south, more concentrated storm chances will move into the Sunshine State. Storms capable of producing damaging winds will be possible. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/2026-07-25 05-32-34-1784979805904.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Despite this last week, it's been pretty dry for the Carolinas. Recent updates from the drought monitor show an extreme to even exceptional drought across the Carolinas. Southeast Flood Risk Lingers Near Stalled Front

Tuesday brought severe weather again across parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. Multiple tornadoes were spotted, including one in Summerville, PA. <div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2078640402845114541" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2078640402845114541?s=20"></div><h1>OVERNIGHT </h1>Into the overnight hours, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk for severe storms, including the cities of Charlotte, Raleigh, and Richmond. Any area highlighted in dark green will have the potentail for strong to severe storms overnight. Damaging winds will be the primary concern, but a brief tornado can't be ruled out. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/overnigsss-1784768974407.png">Storms will continue along the frontal boundary overnight. Another concern with these storms is the heavy rain that has developed and will continue to develop as this system lingers.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/kkdss-1784769199524.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Along the stalled boundary, heavy rainfall will be possible with the training showers and thunderstorms, and flooding could occur. The upper-level low train continues to keep the weather pattern active for the Midwest. As this system moved through today, strong storms developed, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and tornado warnings.<h1>Severe Outlook</h1>Overnight, we have a slight risk for strong storms from the Midwest to the Great Lakes. The biggest concern will be damaging winds, but large hail and a few tornadoes are also possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/enhannfff-1784599474298.png">Some storms could be packing a significant punch. Hen-egg sized hail and hurricane-force wind gusts will be possible with the strongest storms. Some storms will have a chance to see large tracking tornadoes.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/07/fjfjfjfjfsss-1784599821708.png"><h1>Forecast Timing</h1>Overnight, as the frontal boundary moves to the south/east, storms will continue to ride along it. Another Round of Severe Weather for the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes

Some parts of the country have been dye-ing to get some egg-cellent weather now that we're finally in Spring! After a brief cooldown earlier this week, temperatures are bouncing back. By Saturday and Sunday, many will enjoy more of the Spring-like warmth we've been treated to for many of the past few weeks.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/03/egg hunt temps east-1711551415305.png">Parts of the South might overdo it after this weekend during the afternoon hours. Temperatures could be nearing record highs in parts of Texas. Some-bunny could even see their first 100° day of 2024!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/03/egg hunt temps west-1711551423237.png">A fast-moving system will hop through the northeast Saturday so any egg hunts might need a rain jacket, but if you like the rain, you won't carrot all. The system should be clear by Easter. We'll need to monitor a frontal boundary near I-70 that could try to focus some more rain chances.
