A cold upper-level low-pressure system cut off from the main jet stream is tapping into abundant moisture, bringing rain and snow to parts of the Four Corners and Western Plains. Snowfall totals in parts of New Mexico and Colorado have consistently ranged from 4-10 inches, with up to 17.5" in Chacon, NM!
Winter weather alerts are in effect for New Mexico, the Panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma, and western Kansas. Additional snow totals overnight will be light, a coating to three inches along with a glaze of ice possible.
Light to moderate snow is expected behind the low into Western Kansas, and the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma into Friday.
Additional snow totals will be highest in the panhandle region of Texas and Oklahoma, northeast New Mexico, and southwest Kansas, but should not top another 3 inches.
Conditions will improve Friday afternoon as snow melts and temperatures warm above freezing.
