We were setting new record lows toward the end of the week, it's been that cold across the eastern half of the United States. The "fields" had frost on them, as Westfield and Bluefield both sank to freezing levels, tying and establishing a new record minimum temperature for Saturday morning. The cold air is thanks, in large part, to a strong area of high pressure across the Northeast.
Another cool start for portions of Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut is in place for Sunday morning.Temperatures Sunday morning will fall to the 30s in some spots. After Sunday, lows will climb back closer to seasonal.Temperatures will start to thaw over the next few days. Although it's a little brisk in the mornings, highs will be warmer than average over the next few days. Places like NYC should be in the low 60s, instead, the highs will be in the 70s!
We continue to monitor the impacts of Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. For folks working outdoors here, the temperature will continue to be chilly through the weekend mornings, however will be warming to more comfortable levels in the afternoon.
Alas, we are in the season where temperature swings happen frequently. If you're not a fan of the cool air, hang in there just a little while.
