There's a little something for everyone starting Friday. We've got a storm system that brings the same vibe: a little bit of everything.<h1>WINTER</h1>Falling snow can be romantic, right? The way this system looks like it might be built, however, could raise some issues. While the threat of significant snow will be there for some, most might get a bit of a wintry mess: going from snow to sleet to rain as temperatures warm. Timing is still up in the air and could change how this unfolds this weekend.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/2026-02-11 12-06-49-1770829635572.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>STORMS</h1>With warm weather building in the south, this could turn into more of a strong storm threat. While the system looks dynamic enough to provide the lift, it will need some other ingredients to talk about damaging winds or hail. Right now, it's just a bit too soon to talk about.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/2026-02-11 12-08-45-1770829764518.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>It does look like the rain could be slow enough to move out of the area, so a flooding threat will be something to watch for this weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/web4-1770808535158.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/web1-1770829814482.png"><h1>CHANGES</h1>We've gotten used to seeing these storm systems unlocking and driving the Arctic air well to the south. That doesn't look like the case with this one. The jet stream winds will primarily be west to east, which will keep the dangerously cold temperatures locked up north. Active Weather Threatens Weekend Plans Again

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

California has not had significant precipitation in the last few weeks. Although the reservoirs are doing well, several sites in the Sierra Nevada are at record low snowpack, as conditions have only been deteriorating with the lack of moisture. Luckily, the pattern is beginning to change! Winter Storm Impacts reaching moderate to major levels are looking likely for the next few days (above).<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/2026-02-11 12-03-19-1770829423707.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Portions of Northern California will receive beneficial rain and snow from the system in the Pacific Northwest. More of the state is in position to receive heavy rain and snow through the beginning half of the week, as a strong upper-level trough digs south along the coast. Models are indicating that the most impactful of the weather is expected on Tuesday, particularly over the higher elevations of the mountains, where heavy snow will be falling. Parts of Southern California will even see some showers midweek.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/web1-1770829499080.png">While totals won't be incredibly dramatic, a foot of accumulation will be possible, helping to boost current snowpack numbers. Snowfall Returns for the Sierra Nevada Mountains This Week

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Winter weather alerts remain in place across the northeast for snow through Wednesday. Although some areas may experience light snow, travel on untreated roads can still be impacted<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://roads.As">.</a> As this next clipper system continues through, we can see snow and some lake-effect snow the next few days. A high-pressure system will move in, and things will taper off on Thursday night.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/2026-02-11 06-01-07-1770807706533.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>When all is said and done, the heaviest snow ends up in upstate New York and most of the New England area. With a few of these lake effect bands cranking well into late week, we can see some totals top out at 6"!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/web1-1770807761894.png">But what about those temps after the fact? Well, judging by the Climate Prediction Center's (CPC) 6-10 day outlook, we're likely to continue with these above-average temperatures even after Valentine's Day weekend. Yet Another Clipper Hits the Northeast After a Brief Warmup

It's been no secret how dry things have been out west. We've been locked under persistent high-pressure, steering any active weather up and around them. That pattern is beginning to break down. First, leading to rainfall in California, but eventually into the Rocky Mountains this week. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-10 065416-1770731679896.jpg">As our behemoth of a trough moves onshore, it's ushering in a new era of weather that we haven't seen in a few weeks. Rain and snow chances will pick up, primarily on Wednesday. That's when travel could become dicey in the higher elevations. Winter Weather Alerts cover the Wasatch and Uintas into Thursday<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/web1-1770807168516.png">Snow will be possible in some form or fashion through the rest of the week, with Friday looking like the next "big" push in the high country.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/2026-02-11 05-53-09-1770807218847.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snowfall amounts will be measured in the feet, which could help put a dent in the sizeable deficit facing many states (above). By the time Saturday rolls around, many areas will at least pick up 12 inches, with much more possible. Rockies Receive Some Much-Needed Help

It was another cold morning on Monday across the Northeast. Many cities across the Northeast hit below zero for the air temperature! Dubois, PA broke its record low temperature for the morning, getting down to -9°.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-09 081947-1770650390845.png">There will be some improvement with overnight lows getting closer to seasonal by midweek.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-09 174938-1770684583296.png"><h1>Where does this year's cold rank?</h1>While it has been a cold winter, many colder winters have occurred in the history of weather observations in the Eastern U.S. Most of these areas have weather data dating back to the 1800s, so ranking in the bottom half or even bottom quarter is still impressive.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-06 094753-1770397848980.png">As we look ahead, temperatures will remain below average. Cold Air Remains Across the Northeast

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. It was a hot day on Monday, February 9th in the Central Plains with many locations breaking record high temperatures for this date in time. Some of these locations include spots like Sioux City, Iowa, which not only broke a daily record high, but they also had their warmest temperatures this early in the year.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-09 174203-1770684273700.png">Temperatures are expected to drop on Tuesday but they'll still be above-average across the northern Plains.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-09 135952-1770671000646.png">The warming temperatures will mean impacts from melting snow and ice, particularly where ice jams become a hazard. A flood watch remains in effect for eastern Nebraska for ice jam flood potential.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/Screenshot 2026-02-09 140356-1770671044246.png">Another side-effect of the warmer weather is wildfire concerns. As winds kick up to 20-30 mph, areas of eastern New Mexico and the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas need to be mindful of grass fire ignitions. Anything that gets going could spread quickly, as dry as this area has been recently. The championship of the National Football League is set to be decided this Sunday. The Seattle Seahawks will face the New England Patriots for the right to claim the title at 3:30 PM PT Sunday. But will the weather have a say in who is hoisting the trophy at the end of it?Weather conditions look favorable for the big game this weekend, especially for an outdoor event in early February. Forecasts point to a mild and comfortable setup, with temperatures expected to settle into the upper 50s to near 60 degrees around kickoff. While it may cool slightly as the evening goes on, conditions should remain pleasant enough for fans in the stands with a light jacket.&nbsp;<h3>PATTERN BREAKING DOWN</h3><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/02/web4-1770549373360.png">Skies are expected to feature a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day, with cloud cover increasing later in the afternoon and evening. A marine influence could allow for some low clouds or patchy fog nearby, but widespread visibility issues or major weather disruptions are not anticipated at this time. Any moisture in the area appears limited, keeping the chance for rain low during game time.&nbsp;If you plan on attending any of the pregame festivities this week before the game kicks off, no issues at all either.Winds are also forecast to stay relatively light, which is good news for both players and spectators. Big Game Looks Dry

Patrick Crawford has always been a huge weather buff! He grew up in Plano, Texas, and it was there that he experienced what Mother Nature was capable of doing. He would always turn on the television to see what local meteorologists were saying about the weather. That's when he realized he wanted to be a meteorologist.

Patrick graduated from Northern Illinois University (’04) with a degree in Meteorology and a double minor in Mathematics and Geography. Broadcast Meteorology has been great to him and he has been able to work in television markets all across the country. Some of his stops have included New Orleans, Green Bay and even Yuma, Arizona. He is so excited to be part of the WeatherNation team.

He has been awarded the prestigious CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) weather seal from the American Meteorological Society.

A wave of energy moving into western Texas today will provide a chance for scattered showers and storms today.  During the peak heating this afternoon there could even be a few isolated severe storms.  Here is the latest severe forecast.

Widespread storms will be possible for western Texas with only an isolated area seeing severe.  This area will be the Big Bend region of Texas.
