Severe weather is possible again today across the state of Florida. The threat for large hail and an isolated tornado or two are likely. A low pressure system associated with a cold front amps up energy across the "Sunshine State." Very heavy rainfall and potential flooding will also be a concern.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued severe weather outlooks for overnight and Saturday. Waterspouts, tornadoes, and damaging wind gusts will be the three main hazards through the overnight and into Saturday morning.
Storms will train over the same areas, resulting in heavy rainfall, and possibly flooding. Torrential downpours will be happening as well, with the storms clearing from west to east across Florida late Saturday afternoon as the main low moves offshore. Isolated severe storms capable of damaging winds or a tornado remain possible.
Rain totals on Friday already amounted to over 5" in south Florida and the Keys, and another several inches are possible until the rain stops Saturday. Expect an additional 1-2" from Cape Coral to West Palm Beach, with higher amounts the farther south you go. Locally high rain totals in poor drainage and urban areas could cause flash flooding.
The severe weather potential should lessen by Saturday afternoon across much of the state of Florida as the cold front finally moves into the Atlantic. This should allow more sunshine to return to the "Sunshine State" on Sunday.
