High pressure is making January feel more like spring for portions of the West Coast, where temps are unseasonably warm for this time of year. Records were broken once again Monday in the Northwest and California. Montana, Idaho, California, and Nevada all broke records today. Cities like Fresno and Bakersfield in California reached the upper 70s breaking old records. Livingston, MT reached a high of 60° beating out the old record of 54°. We will slowly start to see temps drop down through the week, as the high-pressure system keeping things warm moves east, allowing cooler air to funnel in.
Take a look at all the cities that have the potential to tie or break records over the next 24 hours. We will see highs soar to about 10-15° above average through midweek. An incoming area of low pressure by Wednesday should knock our temperatures back down towards average. More on that story: here.
We have the potential for record highs Tuesday and that means temps for this portion of the country will run around 10°-20° above average, over the next few days. Medford, OR has an average of around 51° for this time of year, and is forecast to reach 65° on Tuesday, well above average! Enjoy the January warmth before temps start to cool.
