It will be a cool end of 2023 across the Southeast thanks to a cold front sweeping across the region, dropping temperatures into the 40s and 50s for highs and overnight lows in the 30s for most. The front is also bringing with it a bit of a breeze, so those lows will feel even chillier the next few mornings. Near freezing wind chills are anticipated all the way down into the Florida Panhandle on Sunday morning and freeze alerts are in effect as a result (above).
Overnight lows will run about 5-10° below average for many in the Deep South. Pull your plants in overnight if you can and if they're in pots as frost is likely.
The frontal boundary responsible for the cold air this weekend will be a "dry front" meaning little precipitation is anticipated in the Deep South with the front. However, another weak front is possible on Sunday into Monday bringing a reinforcing push of chilly air to start 2024.
