Snowfall rates of 2"/hour are being reported across the region this afternoon. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have been issued and will remain in place through midday on Wednesday.<h1>TIMING</h1>A cold front is moving in from the northwest, and a warm front is lifting up from the south. This setup will bring rain in the south, snow in the north, and the potential for significant icing for the area where these two air masses collide. Through the rest of Tuesday, the first round of precipitation will move through, and on Wednesday and Thursday, another batch of snow, ice, and rain will move through further to the north. Driving can be hazardous during this time so please use caution. The jet stream shifts south and targets Colorado with cold and snow starting 2/11 and continuing through 2/17. Denver could see several inches during this timeframe. The Mountains could see 1-3 feet of total accumulation.Timing:1) An Arctic cold front hits Denver and the Front Range late 2/11 into early 2/12. Light to moderate snow accumulation is likely for the I-25 Corridor and I-70 Corridor into the Mountains.2) A strong area of low pressure 2/14-2/15 delivers heavy snow accumulation to all mountain zones. Potentially 1-3 feet of total accumulation. Light snow accumulation for Denver and the Front Range.Below is the forecast for atmospheric moisture on Wednesday, 2/12. Another Colorado Low will start to cut through the Plains Tuesday night into Wednesday. From Kansas to Illinois, heavy snow is expected to come down as this system slides east. Winter storm warnings are in effect where the heaviest of the snow is expected. Winter storm watches will likely get upgraded in the next day or so.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-11 105302-1739296416870.jpg">Snow is moving through the Mid-South Tuesday morning, but the more impactful system moves in Wednesday. Heavy Snow Returns to the Plains

A series of systems will impact the Midsouth this week bringing the region a good amount of rain and even the chance for severe thunderstorms. 2-5" of rain will be expected to be widespread with isolated higher amounts. Localized flooding could be possible as rivers, creeks, and streams will need to be monitored. An excessive rainfall outlook has been issued for the region on Tuesday &amp; Wednesday for some of the same cities.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Web 10 -1739280630742.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Web 11-1739280640508.png">Widespread rain from Austin, Texas to Knoxville, TN will surpass 5+"<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Web 15-1739280933194.png">By Wednesday afternoon and evening a cold front will work across Louisiana and spark potential severe thunderstorms. On Wednesday, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama are under a marginal risk for severe weather. Damaging wind and tornadoes will be the largest weather concern with the storms that do develop.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Web 12-1739280797278.png">The timing looks to favor the afternoon and evening hours into Wednesday. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2025-02-11 10-48-36-1739296190252.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The pattern does look to stay active, with chances for severe thunderstorms coming right back to the area by the weekend. Deep South Stays Stormy This Week

<h1>NORTHERN PLAINS</h1>A blast of arctic air remains in portions of the northern plains. Extreme cold alerts are in place through tomorrow morning. Dangerous wind chills can occur with values as low as 50 below zero. In these conditions, frostbite can occur in as little as 10 minutes, so make sure to dress in layers if you have to be outside.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-11 074420-1739285078219.jpg">As this frigid air dominates the Northern plains, temps will remain below average and COLD! Portions of Montana will see some of the coldest air of this winter season. Great Falls typically drops to around 15° in the mornings, but this morning fell past -20°.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/COLD 3-1739199366186.png">The Wind Chills have visited -60°! These types of wind chills are dangerous and are only going to improve a little this afternoon, so please use caution.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/ffss-1739228815678.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>NORTHWEST</h1>A shot of dry arctic air will bring extremely cold temps across the Northwest. Extreme cold alerts are in place through Thursday morning. Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

By now, the South is no stranger to warmer weather, as temperatures have been above average for over a week. More records fell on Sunday for cities like Charlotte, North Carolina, and Greer, South Carolina. Cooler air will funnel in, but by Midweek, portions of the Gulf and Florida have the potential for more record warmth.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/RECORDS DUNDAY-1739153469144.png">The next round of record temps will be on Wednesday - Thursday. Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and southern Georgia all have the potential to see records broken!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/fess-1739153596630.png"><h1>SOUTHEAST</h1>Not everyone will see the warm air, but the southerly flow will bring warm air to cities like New Orleans and Montgomery, Alabama. Meteorologist Jesse Kelley is excited to join the talented staff at Weather Nation. Jesse spent most of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. From Alabama, Jesse started his broadcast television working three years at KAVU-TV in Victoria. Recently, he finished a stint in Shreveport, LA. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739061270112.png">Around 6PM ET, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake was detected in the Western Caribbean between the Cayman Islands and Honduras. Over the past few hours, there has been a few aftershocks near the epicenter. Also, there has been a few smaller earthquakes near Puerto Rico.According to the USGS, it is not out of the ordinary to see earthquakes at this location. The last earthquake nearby this location was back in January 2018 with a magnitude of 7.5. A small tsunami was caused similar to tonight's earthquake. The danger of tsunamis have ended and there is no threat to the Gulf waters.We will keep you updated as this is a developing story.

Karissa is the Director of On-Air Operations at WeatherNation. Karissa grew up loving math and science, but really fell in love with Meteorology while attending the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. After two summers of storm chasing in the central plains, she knew that it was the career path for her. Standing in front of a thunderstorm and feeling the cool outflow knock her over was an experience she will never forget. After two years at COD, she transferred to Metropolitan State University of Denver. Karissa graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology. Her high school and college speech and meteorology professors were extremely supportive and pushed her to succeed. Before joining the WeatherNation team, she previously worked as the Morning Meteorologist at KCAU-TV in Sioux City, Iowa and at WMBD-TV in Peoria, IL. She recently was part of a National Edward R. Murrow award winning team for breaking news for their coverage of the EF-4 tornado in Washington, Illinois. In her free time, Karissa enjoys cooking and trying new foods. She is a self proclaimed 'TV Junkie' who can get into just about any show. She is a die hard Chicago sports fan who loves attending professional sporting events.

Claudette is expected to remain at Tropical Storm strength as a trough of low pressure stears it to the northeast. Gradual weakening is expected over cooler sea surface temperatures as it edges towards the Maritime Provinces of Canada. The make-up of the storm is likely to transition to post-tropical or extra-tropical by late Monday.
