Big Snows for Western Mountains; Close to 3 Feet Ahead for the Sierras

Very heavy snow will continue to fall in the the Sierra Nevada Mountains into this weekend. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect as up to 3 feet of accumulation is likely for the highest elevations, especially near Mammoth Lake. The Cascades will likely see 10" to 20" of fresh powder. The system moving will push high humidity across the region from the Pacific Ocean. At times, snowfall rates of 2-3" per hour may occur. Another system this weekend will bring additional snowfall. Heavy snow is also possible across several other mountain ranges in the West, including the Wasatch, Rockies, Spring, and San Bernardino. Up to a foot is possible in the winter weather alert areas. Meteorologist Merry Matthews
