Strong storms kept the Northeast active Wednesday night. Pittsburgh was under a tornado warning which became a "confirmed" as it moved east. Flash flooding also hit the city and residents are now cleaning up from the storms.
Both New York City and Boston were under severe storm warnings as well with the severe thunderstorm warnings in New York becoming "destructive", with the threat of 70 mph winds. There was a slight risk from the Storm Prediction Center (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe storms from the Ohio Valley through Southern New England due to the storm threat.
One of the factors helping in thunderstorm development is the unseasonably hot and humid conditions that started the work week. If you're not a fan of the heat and humidity, drier/cooler air will arrive Thursday-Friday across the Northeast. Cooler and drier weather will arrive by Friday, however, additional rain showers and thunderstorms could hit many cities this weekend. We will update you on that part of the story as time approaches.
