Dry Weather Ignites Fire Threat in the Plains

A combination of dry air and strong winds will keep the fire danger elevated across the southern and central Plains. Fire alerts are in place for parts of Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

We will see upper-level energy channel winds from the south and southwest on Friday, which will run perpendicular to the mountains, and increase winds on the Lee side (east side of the mountains) on Friday. Any spark that gets going will spread quickly through Spring grasses.

It goes without saying to use caution with open flames, or anything that could spark a fire, in these conditions!
