The weekend brought heavy rain along the Atlantic Seaboard and snowfall to start the week off. The region is now drying out. However, river levels still remain very high across parts of Maine, New York, and New Jersey. In fact, much of the greater New England region is experiencing swollen rivers as of Wednesday. River levels are receding (going down) and with no rain forecast for the next several days, improvements are to be expected.
Power outages remain an issue in the Northeast after wind gusts reached 90 miles per hour in parts of Maine and Massachusetts! According to poweroutage.us, over 200,000 customers in Maine remain without power due to the hurricane-force winds that knocked down power lines and trees. Roadways remain inaccessible due to storm debris in some locations, so be patient as power companies send crews out to restore power.
Drier, cooler weather will prevail through the holiday weekend. Temperatures will warm through Christmas, but heavy rain will hold off. Next week more heavy rain will be possible by the Tuesday or Wednesday time frame.
