Stormy afternoons remain in the forecast across the Four Corners and Desert Southwest, which is typical during the height of monsoon season. Moisture rotating around the monsoonal high will usher in flood potential and a few strong storms. A slight risk (level 2 out of 5) is in place on Wednesday for portions of Arizona.
For the rest of the evening and the next few afternoons, you can expect scattered thunderstorms to pop up across parts of the Southwest! Rain chances will begin to increase in areas of New Mexico and the rest of the 4 Corners. The biggest threats will be gusty winds and heavy rain!
The Weather Prediction Center has issued excessive rainfall outlooks over the next 5 days. These outlooks are issued when model data suggests rainfall will exceed flash flooding guidance; the outlooks are rated on a scale of 1 to 4 (marginal to high). Even rainfall amounts as low as an inch can come down fast enough to lead to flooding.
