A strong Pacific low continues to bring moisture to the West Coast in the form of rain and mountain snow. The heaviest snow is behind us and we picked up on a much needed foot plus of snow through the Sierra Nevada. The heaviest of the snow is now into Nevada before it moves into the 4 Corners. Spotty rain and snow showers will be what's left behind as the moisture moves into Southern California Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Winter weather advisories (in purple) and winter storm warnings (in pink) have been issued across the state of California through Thursday. The Sierra Nevada alerts are for snowfall totals past a foot, and at the spine of the mountains we could accumulate up to 18". Meanwhile, additional advisories have been added for our southern California mountains for snowfall totals up to 3-6". Some places in SoCal have the potential of seeing up to 8" by the time this storm is done.
There is another round of heavy precipitation that is expected to work in by the weekend. This looks to bring more healthy snowfall to the Sierra Nevada range. You can find more details on the weekend system across the west here: Active Pattern Continues Along the West Coast This Weekend.
