Texas and Oklahoma have been no strangers to severe weather this season with non-stop storm activity since the beginning of May. Thursday, we could see a few isolated severe storms across the Panhandle of Texas and Oklahoma. A cold front will spark off thunderstorms likely with the daytime heating!
Summer is officially underway and high temperatures have been already soaring along the Gulf Coast. Warm southerly flow has increased dew points over Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, and Florida. The southerly flow in combination with a "heat dome" dominating the central and western U.S. will lead to potential record-breaking temperatures for south Texas on Wednesday and certainly high heat index values - close to 120° in Laredo and Brownsville.
Our hottest days over the next few in south Texas will be into Thursday when dew points combined with high temperatures already in the 90s will lead to heat index values along and south of I-10 pushing 110°. Actual high temperatures run only about 5-10° above average through the end of this week but the high dew points contribute to the oppressive nature of the heat this week.
Temperatures remain hot through the weekend with dew points highest along the Gulf Coast. Temperatures will be warm, but trending back towards average.
