WEST - A series of atmospheric rivers have been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the last few weeks. The next round of rain and snow is taking shape as our next river pushes in. Some areas that received the most recent rainfall picked up a few inches heading into this past weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762163971054.png">Our next system is gathering moisture and will work onshore this week, bringing back more chances for rain and snow. Here's how much we might be in for over the next few days (below). Wednesday looks to be the day with the most widespread rain, which could lead to a renewed round of flooding. Parts of the northern Cascades could receive a foot or more of snow on the highest peaks.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-03 135924-1762203584138.png">With multiple inches of rain on the way, the Weather Prediction Center is already monitoring coastal areas. Starting on Tuesday, the threat of flash flooding will return. But each day from Tuesday to Thursday could lead to flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-03 140002-1762203612730.png"><h2>Timing</h2>According to the Weather Prediction Center, the next "strong landfalling atmospheric river" looks to impact the coast of southwest Oregon and northern California starting Tuesday afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall happening in the evening and overnight. How to Help Those Impacted by Hurricane Melissa

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<h1>What To Expect</h1>We're in for several rounds of moisture in the northeast throughout this work week. Temps will be near average, and we will see a few rounds of rain through this week and into the weekend. After the first system moves out overnight, we can expect a break on Tuesday, with more rain and some snow moving in on Wednesday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/norhteast latr-1762216974194.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Most folks will see around a tenth of an inch or less in terms of rainfall. Snow will be possible in the higher elevations. Snowfall totals will be around 1"-3", with localized heavier amounts possible. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/snofffl-1762217049726.png">Here's a look at Pittsburgh, PA. Over the next week, you can see rain chances on and off, with Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday seeing the best chances of rainfall. Stormy Conditions Return for the Northeast Later this Week

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. NORTHERN PLAINS - As we head into the end of the week, an upper-level trough north of the border will usher cooler air into the northern U.S. With a couple of fronts passing through, temperatures may drop low enough to support some snow. So it’s time to brush up on our winter terminology — early winter snowstorms are here!<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/11-04 RNC-1762216937448.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Starting on Thursday, a cold front will drop into the northern Plains. This first front will bring mostly rain to the U.S., with a few flurries possible. Once the second front moves through on Friday afternoon and evening, it should be cold enough to bring snow chances to North Dakota, Minnesota, and the Great Lakes region.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/11-03__RNC BAMS3K-1762216982007.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>For now, models show only a couple of inches of snowfall, but that’s enough to start thinking about snow tires across the Upper Midwest. First Snow Forecast of the Season for the Northern Plains

Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

We're well on our way to winter, but high temperatures will be soaring across the Western and Central United States to start the month of November. Upper-level ridging is shifting east into the southern Plains as we get into the midst of the work week. A few record high temperatures will continue to fall this week, including cities like Amarillo, Austin, and Denver.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-03 140603-1762203998604.png">After a roughly 30-degree temperature drop in Denver from Sunday to Monday, temperatures will rebound by Tuesday, potentially breaking another daily record this week. The forecast high is 77°, matching the record for November 4th set in 2020.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-03 140654-1762204133700.png">Looking into the weeks ahead, another ridge is likely to continue to bring high heat across the lower 48. Record Warmth Possible From Nevada to Texas

Coastal areas will be dealing with intrusions of ocean water, known as coastal flooding, during the week ahead with the return of king tides!<h2>What is a "king tide?"</h2>When the gravitational pull of the sun and moon are both higher than normal, high and low tides become more pronounced, leading to flooding during high tide and potentially low water issues during the low tides.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 051621-1762088418982.png">This happens most often from the fall through the spring as the sun's gravitational pull on the earth is the strongest. Despite winter conditions in North America, the sun is actually closest to the earth in early January.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 051520-1762088418986.png"> King tides are most pronounced when the moon is at its closest point to the Earth in its orbit, which is known as perigee. This is happening at the same time as the full moon for both November and December, creating what's known as a supermoon. During these supermoon events, the moon will be about 14,000 miles closer to the Earth than normal!<h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 060337-1762088634156.png">November King Tides</h2>King tides will be ramping up throughout the week ahead. Note how much the tidal range grows in Charleston from now through Wednesday, increasing from about 6 feet to over 7 feet by Wednesday!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762165790353.png">Tides near Miami (Virginia Key below) will also increase this week, increasing from about 2 feet to 3 feet!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762165816978.png">Coastal flood alerts will likely be issued as we get closer to the mid-week time-frame, so be sure to check your high tide times locally and avoid areas near the coast during those times. How Big Did the Hail Get in Texas Saturday?

Sometimes there may not be a sure bet on who will win the Kentucky Derby, but this year's odds on rain are just about a lock!

Expect rain to be falling at post time, scheduled for 6:50 p.m. Eastern Saturday. With recent rainy conditions and more forecast, the track should be quite muddy. The rain will be due to a slow-moving area of low pressure traversing the Ohio River Valley region. The latest forecast is showing the rain to get heavier through the afternoon hours Saturday. Our only hope for drier weather is if the rain will move out and finish sooner, rather than later.
