A strong low pressure system that came out of the Gulf dumped rainfall on Florida and brought damaging winds over the weekend. The combination of the winds and heavy rain led to localized flooding and storm surge issues. Reports of flooding and strong wind gusts are still coming in Sunday. This video came out of St. Pete Beach, FL. Not far from St. Pete Beach is Saint Petersburg, which measured over 3.50" of rainfall this morning.
As this same system moves to the northeastern U.S., the concerns for flooding, damaging wind gusts, storm surge, and even a few tornadoes accompanies it.
By now, The Sunshine State is slowly, but surely starting to dry up. With that in mind, we're finding some very impressive rain reports out of Florida within the last 72 hours. A suburb of Jacksonville has seen over 8.5" of rain over the last three days.
On Saturday, West Palm Beach saw record rainfall! The old record was set back in 1896 with 1.70" of rain, and Saturday saw a whooping 2.16".
Be careful of flooded roadways and sidewalks today. Coastal communities can also see high waves and storm surge effects. Use extra caution in or around these areas. Remember, turn around, don't drown.
