We're nearing the end of Severe Weather Awareness Week here at WeatherNation! Each day we will continue to bring you new information about severe weather hazards, tips to stay safe, and things you can do to prepare ahead of the storm.

Saturday - Preparation & Safety

Now that you know what could be headed your way this severe weather season, today is all about keeping you safe and prepared for those threats.

Forecast Friday!

We've been talking all about severe weather threats this week, but how do thunderstorms and severe weather form? It's forecast Friday!

We also want to share how researchers at the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety are working to strengthen building codes for rural communities across America. Here's Dr. Jim with more:

Thursday - Flooding

Are you prepared for flooding before it even happens? It is about knowing your flood zone, risk, and insurance coverage. Meteorologist Caitlin Connell has more on how to be prepared ahead of the rain.

Flooding can impact from the ground up, but wind-driven heavy rain can also cause flooding. For an easy step you can take before it starts raining, here's Dr. Jim.

Wednesday - Wind

Nearly every thunderstorm produces gusty winds and winds even as weak as 60 mph can do damage to your home and property. If you're thinking about replacing your windows any time soon, consider impact-resistant windows, just as you would energy efficient ones.

Tuesday - Hail

Your roof is your first line of defense against hail and wind, but are you protected in the right way? Dr. Jim discusses the best way to secure your roof and the types of shingles you can use if you live in a hail-prone zone.

Monday - Tornadoes

Today, we are kicking things off by telling you everything you need to know about tornadoes and tornado safety. We start with our "Weather Checkup" with Dr. Jim, talking about wind ratings for garage doors. Your garage door is the largest opening to your home and research shows that if your garage door is CLOSED and strong enough for 130 mph winds, then your home will stay standing during severe wind and tornadoes. For more on how to check, here's Dr. Jim:
