After isolated storms dumped 1-3"+ yesterday alone, the flash flooding risk is a bit heightened on Monday. The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) issued a moderate risk (level 3 out of 4) of numerous, significant flash flooding events possible in Savannah and Charleston (see above). Surrounding that takes the flood threat through the Florida panhandle and up the North Carolina Coast.
With the possibility of heavy rain, flood alerts remain in effect for the Central Florida Panhandle and coastal Carolina/Georgia. Don't drive through flooded roadways. Up to 4" of localized rain is possible which could create ponding on the roads.
Overnight most activity winds down, however, showers are likely in the greater Atlanta area early Tuesday morning. Pop-up showers and storms continue through the afternoon Tuesday before drying takes hold ahead of the Fourth.
Part of the fuel for showers and storms is intense heat, with dew points into the 70s and 80s. Heat index values climb into the 110s for the Gulf Coast today - be sure to take care of yourself in this extreme heat!
