<p>The lake effect snow season has arrived, with heavy snow expected now through Tuesday. Places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan have already received a foot of snow!<br><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 054716-1762778844004.jpg"><br><br><strong>Winter weather alerts</strong> remain in place all across the shores of the Great Lakes through Tuesday. An additional 6-12" in some locations, with heavy snowfall rates likely reducing visibility at times, will make travel very difficult.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 172942-1762820987681.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 173144-1762821126773.png"></p><h1>How Lake Effect Works</h1><p>Water has a much higher heat capacity than air, meaning it takes more time to warm up and cool down. This leads to "mild" water temperatures in the Great Lakes while the air overhead can be much cooler. As the cold, dry air moves over these areas, it's able to evaporate moisture from the lakes until it condenses into clouds and precipitation before falling out over land. Typically, we need at least a 13° F difference between the lake water and the air aloft (around 1500 m, or 4500-5000 ft) for lake effect snow to form.</p><h1>Forecast</h1><p>With winds coming over the Great Lakes overnight, we can still anticipate lake effect snowfall to continue. Next, a quick-moving clipper will move through to bring a few wintry bands to the snowbelt.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/11-10_rne-1762821068070.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Travel impacts are expected, especially along the I-90 corridor, where major impacts are possible in NW Indiana. <p>If it hasn't been wet, it's been warm out West. This week looks no different as our good friend, an Upper Level Ridge, will continue to sit on top of us. That will keep the quiet weather around, but will start to push temperatures into historic levels today and tomorrow. Plenty of records fell closing out the weekend from California to Arizona.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 055028-1762779056800.jpg">Temperatures look to run above average through Wednesday for a lot of our southwestern cities.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 172730-1762820855732.png">Any time high pressure sets up somewhere in the Great Basin or Four Corners, there could be offshore flow, winds blowing from the desert to the Pacific Ocean. When that happens, those winds are much warmer and drier as they cross up and over the San Gabriels and San Bernardinos. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 172824-1762820909165.png">There is some good news in all of this: it's a short-lived snap of hot weather. By Tuesday and Wednesday, the breezy winds will back off, and that should help temperatures settle closer to normal for this time of year. Warm Weather for the Western U.S.

<p>Arctic air is set to take a deep dive into the Southern United States. Millions of Americans will be impacted by these cooler temperatures. This cold outbreak is being driven by a strong upper-level low dipping southward from Canada, allowing frigid polar air to surge into the central and eastern portions of the country. This low will also help to drive multiple cold fronts across the country. There will be widespread subfreezing temperatures overnight, with many regions experiencing daytime highs that will struggle to climb above the freezing mark.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">&nbsp;</span></p><p>In some areas, temperatures could run 20 to 30 degrees below average, especially across the Plains, Midwest, and Great Lakes region. Tuesday's lows will plummet into the 20s, 30s, and 40s all the way to the Central Gulf Coast States and Florida. Numerous frost and freeze alerts will be issued ahead of the coldest air - protect sensitive plants.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 172428-1762820674019.png">Farther south, the cold air will bring the season’s first frost and freeze to areas that typically remain mild into late fall. The combination of Arctic high pressure and strong cold advection will make the air feel even colder, with wind chill values dipping into the single digits in northern states.<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">&nbsp;</span></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 172444-1762820693215.png">In addition to freeze warnings, <strong>cold weather advisories</strong> have been issued across Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-10 172601-1762820764873.png"></p><p>This early blast of winter is a reminder that the transition from autumn to winter can happen abruptly when large-scale atmospheric patterns align. People should prepare by checking heating systems, protecting exposed pipes, and dressing in multiple insulating layers to guard against hypothermia and frostbite. Arctic Blast Sends Temperatures Plummeting for Millions

Ahead of the front, warm temperatures and plenty of moisture has kept the severe threat going overnight.</p><p>The Storm Prediction Center has kept a severe weather threat at a <strong>MARGINAL</strong> (level 1 out of 5) risk for Florida into the overnight and dies down into Monday morning to be met with cold cold air behind.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-09 175721-1762736328951.png"></p>

That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. <p>A system has been bringing snow across the Plains and Midwest on Saturday. This same system will continue to push through the Great Lakes into Sunday morning. Midwest Clipper Brings Light Snow, Gusty Winds

<p>Secondary severe weather season is underway across the U.S. - so called because it <em>typically</em> pales in comparison to the primary severe weather season in the spring. However, the fall can provide high-end severe weather threats of its own, including the December 2021 tornado outbreak.<br><br>Thankfully, the severe weather setup for now through Sunday doesn't look to be on the high-end, but a few scattered severe storms will be possible.</p><hr><h1>Severe Storm Outlooks/Hazards</h1><p>Early morning severe storms will be possible along the cold front driving south. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible with any severe storms and the severe risk should diminish by sunrise.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/PIC 2-1762564233131.jpg"></p><p>The threat for isolated severe storms will continue Saturday into Sunday as the cold front is dragged through the south. Severe Storms Possible from Ohio to the Gulf Coast Friday and Saturday

<p>A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the last few weeks. Our system is currently moving through Washington, Oregon, and the northern tier of California, bringing heavy rainfall and snow. Above is the forecast rainfall totals for the next several days. Gold Beach in Oregon has already picked up 2.51" of rainfall in the past 24 hours.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762440546220.png"></p><p>With multiple inches of rain on the way, the Weather Prediction Center is monitoring coastal areas at a level 1, <strong>MARGINAL</strong>, risk for excessive rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 095854-1762361963192.png"></p><p></p><h2>Timing</h2><p>Precipitation across the Northwest should continue for the next few hours. Next Big Push of Moisture in the Northwest

Parts of the south could see some showers and storms for Black Friday.  If you plan of looking for those amazing deals in cities like Houston, Little Rock or New Orleans, you will want to have the umbrella handy.  Luckily, we are not looking at a risk of severe with this particular set-up and even the rainfall overall shouldn't leading to a flash flooding issue.  Here is the very latest:

The severe weather risk will be very low, but from East Texas to the Florida Panhandle showers and storms will be possible.
<h1>Forecast</h1>
A trough of low pressure will push across Oklahoma and eastern Texas, bringing a few downpours in the afternoon and evening. As humidity builds, storms will start to fire along the Gulf of Mexico coastline throughout the day. A low pressure center moving northward through the Gulf Friday evening into the weekend, the chance for thunderstorms will increase.
