<p>A series of atmospheric rivers has been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the last few weeks. Our system is currently moving through Washington, Oregon, and the northern tier of California, bringing heavy rainfall and snow. Above is the forecast rainfall totals for the next several days. Gold Beach in Oregon has already picked up 2.51" of rainfall in the past 24 hours.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762440546220.png"></p><p>With multiple inches of rain on the way, the Weather Prediction Center is monitoring coastal areas at a level 1, <strong>MARGINAL</strong>, risk for excessive rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 095854-1762361963192.png"></p><p>With such a strong trough ushering the rain onshore, it could also help organize a storm or two. Damaging winds and a brief tornado or two are possible overnight.</p><h2>Timing</h2><p>This latest atmospheric river event will continue to slow down overnight. However, the next cold front will bring more rain and snow on Thursday before conditions slightly improve for many heading into Friday and Saturday.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/WESTTT-1762391264522.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Snow</h1><p>As some of that moisture makes its way into the higher elevation mountains, it will likely mean heavy snow for the mountains. Places like the Cascades and Northern Rockies are expected to get anywhere from 6" to up to a foot of snow or more! Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p><strong>NORTHERN PLAINS - </strong>As we head into the end of the week, an upper-level trough north of the border will usher cooler air into the northern U.S. With a couple of fronts passing through, temperatures may drop low enough to support some snow. So it’s time to brush up on our winter terminology, early winter snowstorms are here!</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/11-05_rnc set up cool-1762394586933.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Starting Thursday, the first of two cold fronts will drop into the northern Plains. This first front will bring mostly rain to the U.S., with a few flurries possible. Once the second front moves through on Friday afternoon and evening, it should be cold enough to bring snow chances to North Dakota, Minnesota, and the Great Lakes region.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-06 07-33-55-1762439683641.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>Snow Models</h2><p>Forecast models have been a bit inconsistent on the temperature profile, but are starting to line up better with one another. The position of the freeze line could greatly impact who will see snowfall with these clippers. Our in-house model favors heavier amounts farther north.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 190223-1762394696523.png">Whereas, the GFS (American) Model favors lower amounts, farther south.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 190229-1762394701730.png"></p><p>Afternoon temperatures in larger cities like Minneapolis should stay warm enough by the end of the week that any flurries that fall will likely melt fairly quickly.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 190531-1762394736734.png"><br>Those low temperatures will drop quickly, though. First Snow Forecast of the Season for the Northern Plains

<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>Secondary severe weather season is underway across the U.S. - so called because it <em>typically</em> pales in comparison to the primary severe weather season in the spring. However, the fall can provide high end severe weather threats of its own, including the December 2021 tornado outbreak.<br><br>Thankfully the severe weather setup for this Friday and Saturday doesn't look to be on the high-end, but a few scattered severe storms will be possible.</p><hr><h1>SETUP</h1><p>Gulf moisture will be surging north in warm air to meet the cold front - where wind shear will be elevated to help organize updrafts. Areas across the Midsouth (KY/TN) will have the best combination of ingredients to see scattered severe storms. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-06 071304-1762438400038.png">Gulf moisture will be surging north in warm air to meet the cold front - where wind shear will be elevated to help organize updrafts. Areas across the Midsouth (KY/TN) will have the best combination of ingredients to see scattered severe storms. </p><h1>Severe Storm Outlooks/Hazards</h1><p>The risk for Friday covers a large area from Ohio to the Gulf Coast (top of page), including a level 2 risk in the Mid-South. The elevated risk is for scattered hail storms, so be sure to prepare ahead of time by protecting property that could be damaged (vehicles/patio furniture/etc.). As the winds will be turning with height, an isolated tornado risk is also in place from Kentucky through Florida. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-06 064227-1762439400231.png">The threat for isolated severe storms will continue Saturday as the cold front is dragged through the south. The current outlook favors eastern Louisiana thorugh North Carolina, but convection allowing forecast models (thunderstorm capable models) show some severe storm moving north into the Chesapeake Bay. Check back in with us online or on air for an updated forecast. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-06 064235-1762439407027.png">Strong storms look to hold off until the afternoon hours in the Mid-South on Friday, but may persist through the early evening hours as they track to the east. As daytime heating recharges the atmosphere on Saturday, a few more severe storms may trigger in the afternoon along the warm front or cold front. </p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-06 06-48-50-1762439465227.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h2>Nashville Hail Threat</h2><p>Middle Tennessee and the I-65 corridor are in the bullseye for large hail Friday afternoon. Consider checking the radar before leaving work on Friday. Severe Storms Possible from Ohio to the Gulf Coast

<p><strong>NORTHEAST - </strong>The Storm Prediction Center has maintained an overnight <strong>MARGINAL</strong> (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather overnight across portions of the northeastern U.S. for a few gusty storms that could reach severe limits as our cold front exits.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/main threattttt-1762392343860.png"></p><h2>Wind + Fire Danger</h2><p>Widespread wind alerts remain in place through Thursday. Some airports have been experiencing delays because of the strong winds. If you have any travel plans, be sure to check for updates and delays.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 173942-1762389589730.png"></p><p>Due to some drier conditions further south and the potential for gusty winds, several red flag warnings have been issued. This will come with an elevated risk for wildfires in the highlighted area.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 123501-1762371317120.png"></p><h2>Round 2 - Friday</h2><p>Our next frontal system is expected to move into the northeast as we head into the end of the week. Windy and Stormy Weather For The Northeast

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<p>Another round of records was set today across Texas as a high-pressure system dominates! Abilene set a record today with a high of 91°, breaking the old record of 90° set in 2007. The warmth will continue this week, before a HUGE pattern shift comes in early next week.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/more record h-1762391456075.png">Temperatures remain above average this week for the southern plains! Temperatures will run 10-15 degrees above average.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/1-1762383898254.png">As we take a look into early next week, a blast of arctic air will bring BIG CHANGES! Monday's lows will plummet into the 20s, 30s, and 40s all the way to the Gulf!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/monday's low temps-1762299738822.png">Take a look at Columbus, Ohio! This week is mild with a high of 67° on Wednesday, and on Monday, there will be a high of only 39°.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/columnn-1762299801846.png">The cooldown even gets all the way down to south Florida, dropping the daytime highs on Friday in Miami to the mid-70s! Record Heat This Week, Before Arctic Blast

<p>Coastal areas will be dealing with intrusions of ocean water, known as coastal flooding, during the week ahead with the return of king tides!</p><h2>What is a "king tide?"</h2><p>When the gravitational pull of the sun and moon are both higher than normal, high and low tides become more pronounced, leading to flooding during high tide and potentially low water issues during the low tides.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 051621-1762088418982.png">This happens most often from the fall through the spring as the sun's gravitational pull on the earth is the strongest. Despite winter conditions in North America, the sun is actually closest to the earth in early January.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 051520-1762088418986.png"><br><br>King tides are most pronounced when the moon is at its closest point to the Earth in its orbit, which is known as perigee. This is happening at the same time as the full moon for both November and December, creating what's known as a supermoon. During these supermoon events, the moon will be about 14,000 miles closer to the Earth than normal!</p><h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 060337-1762088634156.png">November King Tides</h2><p>King tides will be ramping up throughout the week ahead. Note how much the tidal range grows in Charleston from now through Wednesday, increasing from about 6 feet to over 7 feet by Wednesday!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web5-1762342398833.png"></p><p>Tides near Miami (Virginia Key below) will also increase this week, increasing from about 2 feet to 3 feet!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762342479536.png"></p><p>Coastal flood alerts will likely be issued as we get closer to the mid-week time-frame, so be sure to check your high tide times locally and avoid areas near the coast during those times.<br><br>December will also feature a round of king tides with another supermoon!</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 054718-1762088653776.png"></p>

A cut-off upper-level low in the Northwest will allow a chance for severe storms over Montana today.  Cities like Helena, Great Falls and Havre will need to prepared to take cover with any storms that develop today.  Here is the very latest.
