A storm system tracking into the Southwest has been producing areas of heavy rain and snow. More than a foot of snow has accumulated in the last couple of days in the Sierra Nevada, with 2" to 3" of rain in Southern California. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect across the higher elevations and mountain ranges in the Southwest. The highest peaks could see a foot of snow through Wednesday. The low pressure center that brought the heavy rain and snow to California has pushed east of the Four Corners. It will bring heavy snow to the Rockies into Christmas morning. Another low approaches the California coast on Thursday with more rain and snow. With the slow moving nature of this system, precipitation totals will climb once again. If you have travel plans in the Southwest, especially through the mountains, check ahead on road conditions and stay tuned to WeatherNation on-air and online for updates.
