A wildfire broke out on Saturday, June 1st south of Stockton, CA in the Central Valley, prompting evacuations along the I-580 corridor. It's grown to over 10,000 acres and its cause is currently under investigation. Thankfully the fire is at 75% containment at the last update but has jumped over I-580 so if your travels take you along I-5 or I-580 between Modesto and San Francisco and south of Sacramento, check the route before you head out.
Strong winds fanned the flames Saturday, with some gusts reaching 40-50 mph in the area. Those winds helped push the fire across the highway. Some residents could see the ash falling from the sky on Saturday. Some residents were asked to evacuate east of I-580 as the fire grew in San Joaquin County.
This comes ahead of a HEATWAVE which could dry out vegetation even further, despite a fairly wet Winter season. As we start to enter the core of the fire season this Summer, remember to do your part to prevent new blazes.
