Montana and Idaho managed to break the records they set out for on Tuesday. This heat all built ahead of a storm system moving into the Pacific Northwest.
The above average temperatures were felt across most of the Northern Rockies and High Plains. Highs in the 80s were widespread, with a few cities reaching into the 90s.
Cooler weather will begin to arrive on Wednesday, although most areas will remain above average. The Northern Rockies will cool, but the High Plains will remain mild.
The mild air will slowly fade for the rest of this week. The forecast shows the mercury dropping to at or around normal temperatures this weekend into early next week.
