Keep an eye on the tropics as Hurricane Beryl moves through the Caribbean - it has made landfall in Mexico and will take a course toward the state of Texas in the coming days. Ocean temperatures are contributing to the threat of an above-average tropical season with ocean heat content much above normal in the Atlantic in 2024.

Tropical Storm Aletta formed on Thursday, July 4 in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It is the first named storm of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season. Aletta will be a short-lived storm, only lasting a couple of days as a tropical depression. It will meander off the coast of Mexico, moving away from resort cities such as Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, and Acapulco. It will pose no threat to land.

The next name on the list will be "Bud" while we're already through the first three names of the Atlantic side. As a reminder, 2024 is expected to be above average for tropical activity due to a La Nina forming during the peak of hurricane season in September. It only takes one storm to impact you and the time to prepare is before the storm hits!
