Multiple records are set to fall through Christmas Day across the North Central Plains. In fact, with a forecast highs in the 50s in Minneapolis and Green Bay, these cities could see their warmest Christmas Eve's ever on record. It is all due to upper-level high pressure that will keep the highs region-wide about 10-20 degrees above average.

Taking a closer look into the Twin Cities in Minnesota, there's a high chance that today will be our warmest Christmas Eve on record. And these records date back all the way to the 1800s!

The warmer weather will not last forever! A cold front is sliding through the region, with showers and storms becoming more widespread early Sunday morning. Colder air arrives to meet the moisture on Christmas Eve, changing rain to snow and ice on the backside of the low-pressure system. This will make for very messy conditions in the Central and Northern Plains on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

This will cause issues for the drive home from Grandma's House so plan your routes and time accordingly! Initial model estimates are for our heaviest snow across central South Dakota and Nebraska. You can read more about it by clicking here.
