Giant hail fell on May 30, 2024 in the Denver metro area stretching from the I-25/I-470 interchange down through I-70 and impacting the Denver International Airport. This is likely to have caused over a billion dollars worth of damage in the Denver metro area with insurance claims on homes and cars still being filed.

Baseball-sized hail was reported in Commerce City, CO, a suburb on the north side of Denver. Numerous hail reports over 2" in diameter were clocked across the region. Large hail is common in Colorado due to the elevation and access to colder air in the atmosphere. Larger hailstones are common over the Front Range.

WeatherNation is headquartered in the Denver area and our meteorologists were subject to the giant hail too. Meteorologist Jackie Brown's car was damaged in the storm.

A few storms developed along the highest terrain just west of Denver before moving southeast after dark. The southernmost storm cell was responsible for giant hail reports from I-25 through the I-70 corridor, hitting much of the northern and eastern suburbs of the Mile High City
