A flash flood emergency occurred in New Orleans Wednesday after heavy rain led to rising water and impassable roads. A flash flood emergency was also issued in New Orleans after 4" of rain fell quickly in the city. The poor drainage combined with heavy rain in a short period overwhelmed the streets.
Strong storms also produced a tornado north of New Orleans in Slidell which was given a rating of EF-2. Additional storm ratings will be performed in the coming days after numerous tornado warnings were issued in lower Louisiana. A tree fell on a car in St. Landry Parish, LA north of Lafayette, injuring four people. Additional wind and storm damage was seen across the state.
An EF-2 was also confirmed Wednesday morning in Lake Charles, LA alongside several other confirmed tornadoes Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
After storms blew through Louisiana they hit Mississippi and Alabama where strong winds pushed the waters of Mobile Bay onto the causeway leading to widespread flooding in the city.
Severe weather continues in the Southeast on Thursday with energy likely to produce a few tornadoes in the Midwest too.
